The Season Begins

The weather in Carolina was a bit chilly but skies were clear and the sun felt great.

Overall, defending champ Navy trails Appalachian State by seven points after this weekend, 43 to App State's 50 points.  In the Road Race on Saturday, Zach McIntyre's 4th place finish in the Men's A race and Alex Schueckler's 1st place finish in the Men's C race were highlights. Major congratulations to Alex for winning his very first race for Navy! The Men's B racers finished solidly in the middle of the pack. The woman turned in excellent performances, as well.  Cheryl Lefever finished 4th in the A race and and Liz Cotter and Kathleen Engle finished in the middle of the pack.

The track for the Criterion on Sunday was short with very tight turns, challenging our riders.  Highlights for the women included Cheryl Lefever's finish at 3rd, with 4 point-earning primes.  Alex Schueckler rocked in the Men's C race, finishing second. Dane Boudreau finished 3rd in the Men's B race and Andy Kohl finished 4th in the Men's A race. Alex, Dane and Andy all racked up additional points for the team with good performance in the prime laps.

Saturday, February 12, the NC State Cycling Team will be hosting the Wolfpack Cycling Classic. Saturday is open to all categories and will be a Road Race in Lee County by the Sanford Airport. The course is rolling with two moderate climbs repeated each lap and an uphill finish shortly after a fast downhill corner, which has made for exciting finishes in past years.

Sunday, February 13th, there will be an on-campus crit. Please note the crit is open to Collegiate Racers only. It is a new four corner crit in the heart of State's campus.

The Wolfpack Cycling Classic is the primary fundraiser for the NC State Cycling Team each year. The State Team strives to introduce cycling and racing to the NC State Student Body. Your attendance at the race is beneficial for the team and for local racing. They're hoping for better weather this year and that they will see all of you for some fantastic early season racing!
